Hyvää uutta vuotta!

Sain jonkin aikaa sitten lahjaksi vanhan kirjan, Florence L. Barclayn The White Ladies of Worcester. Pidin kertomuksesta. Se etenee hitaasti kauniilla vanhalla kielellä kerrottuna. Literary Heritage -linkistä tekstin voi ladata tietokoneelle luettavaksi.

Kirjassa oli muutamia vanhoja rukouksia. Mielestäni ne sopivat sisältönsä puolesta hyvin juuri vuoden vaihtumiseen, kun kuluneet päivät ja kuukaudet siirtyvät historiaan ja uusi vuosi alkaa avautua päivä kerrallaan. Lupausten ja suunnitelmien sijaan ajattelin siirtyä vuoteen 2011 näiden kahden rukouksen siivillä.

O God, the Protector of all that trust in Thee,
without Whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy;
Increase and multiply upon us Thy mercy,
that Thou being our ruler and guide,
we may so pass through things temporal,
that we finally lose not the things eternal,
Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake our Lord.
Amen.

O Lord, we beseech Thee mercifully to receive the prayers of Thy people
who call upon Thee;
and grant that they may both perceive and
know what things they ought to do,
and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil the same:
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
