Superoksa rikollisilta - A super twig from the criminals

Yhtenä aamuna töihin ajaessa huomasin, että kolme puutarhuria leikkaa yhteistuumin naapuruston kauneinta puuta. Joka puolella lojui oksia, joissa on jo valmiina suuret MAGNOLIAnuput! En ehtinyt heti pysähtyä, mutta kotiin mennessä miehet olivat edelleen saman puun kimpussa saksineen ja sahoineen, joten pysähdyin kysymään, saisinko yhden oksan mukaani. Kun sanoin heille, että se on muuten koko alueen kaunein puu, miehet kertoivat, että aikovat sahata sen kokonaan matalaksi. Suorastaan rikollista! Mutta oksa peräkontissa ajattelin, että on parempi sanoa vain kiitokset ja toivottaa hyvät päivänjatkot kuin alkaa hyppiä tasajalkaa ja syyttää heitä rikollisiksi. Seuraavana päivänä, kun ajoin ohi, huomasin puun edelleen pystyssä. Toivon, että miehet olisivat vain vitsailleet sen kaatamisesta kokonaan. Kukkia siihen lienee turha tänä keväänä odottaa, niin kaluttu se runko nyt on... Mutta pieni (suuri) lohdutus, onhan mulla ainakin oksa!

When I drove to work one morning, I saw three gardeners cutting the most beautiful tree in the whole area. There were twigs lying everywhere on the street and you could already see the MAGNOLIA buds in them! I did not have time to stop then, but as I later drove home, the same men were still working on the same spot with their scissors and saws. I decided to stop and ask whether I could get one twig to take home with me. When I told them that they were cutting the most beautiful tree in the neighborhood, they said to my horror that they are going to saw the whole tree off... That's a criminal offense, I thought, but it was better not to say it aloud since I already had a piece of evidence in the trunk of my car... Thanks and have a good day! That was more appropriate than starting to jump on two feet and calling them criminals.When I drove by next day, I saw the trunk of the tree still standing. Hope they were just joking about uprooting it. The trunk looked so barren now that it will hardly bloom this spring... But well, a little (big) comfort, I do have my twig!
