Uutisia on nyt sitten seurattu aamusta iltaan jo muutama päivä. Suoraan sanottuna hiukan harmittaa ulkomaisten medioiden kommentit, kun täälläkin viranomaiset tekevät työtään ympäri vuorokauden. Täällä on hiukan erilainen ajattelutapa julkisuuden suhteen kuin joissakin muissa maissa. Viranomaiset eivät aina heti anna kaikkia tietoja julkisuuteen, jos he olettavat, että tiedot vaikeuttavat tutkimuksia. Se saattaa olla yksi väärinymmärretty elementti tässä keskustelussa. Mutta ihan rehellisesti, jos terrori-iskujen estäminen tosiaan olisi kovin helppoa, niin tuskin niitä olisi tapahtunut viime kuukausina missään muuallakaan.
Huonoista uutisista huolimatta tässä on muutama juttu, mitkä on ilahduttaneet tällä viikolla.
#1: Ihana ikivanha kippo kirpparilta, jee! Niin ihana, että toinen kirpparinkiertäjäkin kommentoi sitä kassajonossa. Hassua, miten vanhatkin astiat yhdistävät, heh!
#2: Löysin kaupasta hollantilaisia liitulakuja! Ainoastaan karkinsyöjät ymmärtävät, miten paljon hyvä karkkipussi voi ilahduttaa.
#3: Vein tytön kaverinsa synttäreille ja menimme vahingossa väärän talon ovelle (kartan mukaan talo oli oikea, numero mätsäsi, auto talon edessä oli oikean merkkinen, portin takana oli oikean rotuinen koira...) Oven avasi ystävällinen vanha setä, joka kutsui meidät ilahtuneena sisään kysymättä edes ensin, mitä asiaa meillä oli. Meinattiin jo astua kynnyksen yli, mutta sitten mainittiin, että tyttö tuli sen nimisen kaverin synttäreille, ja setä sanoi, että siinä tapauksessa onkin väärä talo... Että voikin olla ystävällisiä ihmisiä! No, onneksi selvisi ennen kuin oltiin kahvipöydässä saakka. Hiukan creepy, sanoi tyttö jälkikäteen. Kaverin talo ei ollut kaukana ja sukunimen perusteella setä tiesi neuvoa sinne reitin.
#4: Flaamin kieli sujuu taas kuin rasvattu. Saan arjessa nykyään todella vähän harjoitusta siihen, joten joskus se tökkii. Jatkuva uutisten seuraaminen näköjään auttaa jo muutamassa päivässä. Täytyy varmaan alkaa harrastaa sitä silloinkin kun mitään erityistä ei tapahdu. No, tämä ei nyt kuitenkaan ihan sopinut tähän hyvien asioiden listaan, kun se johti takaisin huonoihin asioihin.

We have been following the news from mornings to evenings for the last couple of days... It got bit annoying when the foreign media began blaming the Belgian authorities. They do actually work very hard and are professional in what they do. The mentality concerning media is bit different here than in some other countries, because the authorities keep stuff to themselves at times in order not to endanger their projects. That, however, is certainly not a sign of "not-doing-a-thing." I get bit patriotic about it, but honestly, if it was so easy to predict and hinder the terrorist attacks, they would not have happened lately elsewhere either.
In spite of all bad news, here are couple of things that have made me smile this week.
#1: This antique bowl. I found it at a secondhand shop. While waiting for my turn to pay, it led into an interesting discussion with another treasure hunter... It's funny how old pieces connect people.
#2: Liquorice. I happened to find a bag of Dutch liquorice in a shop. Yes, I know, a silly little thing. However, all who love eating such stuff totally understand how a bag of candy can cheer one up.
#3: Friendly people. I brought my daughter to a birthday party to a wrong house. The house number, the brand of the car in front of the house and the dog behind the fence were matching. The elderly gentleman opened the door and friendly invited us in without ever asking why we rang his door bell. When he heard about the birthday party, he noticed that we were at the wrong house. The party was in the neighboring farm and he could tell us how to get there. Bit creepy, said my daughter and I totally agree, but isn't it amazing how friendly some people can be to total strangers.
#4: Flemish language. I don't get a lot of practice on a daily basis, so my Flemish gets bit rusty at times. I'm surprised that in just couple of days of listening to the news non-stop it is now back to normal again. But this is not really the right list to mention that because it leads back to the bad news. Sorry.
