That nose in our memories

Huomasin, että murtunut nenä -postausta on viime aikoina klikattu useampaan kertaan. En nyt käynyt vanhoja postauksia läpi, mutta kerroin varmaan silloin, kun asia oli ajankohtainen, että nenä piti sitten lopulta kuitenkin leikata. Kaikki meni hyvin ja leikannut spesialisti oli todella taitava. Hän oli itsekin innoissaan lopputuloksesta. Ja siitä, että sai koottua itselleen harvinaista opetusmateriaalia. Lasten nenät eivät kuulema yleensä murru kovin helposti, joten tästä tuli hyvä case study koulutettaville. Jälkikäteen olemme kyllä monesti ajatelleet, miten hyvä oli, että silloin sattui niin asiantunteva spesialisti kohdalle. Tuntuu hurjalta ajatella, että jos kahta ensimmäistä lääkäriä oltaisiin uskottu, niin tilanne olisi tänään aika toinen. Murtuma ei nimittäin tarkemmin katsottuna ollutkaan symmetrinen ja kasvaessa se olisi tullut näkyviin. Kosmeettinen puoli on tietysti terveyteen verrattuna toisarvoista, mutta kasvot on kuitenkin sen verran keskeinen juttu, että leikkaus oli oikea päätös, jotta nenä saatiin hoidettua eikä siitä tullut jatkuvasti harmittavaa keskusteluteemaa. Nyt se tulee puheeksi lähinnä vain silloin, kun puhe kääntyy Prinssi Williamin ja Katen häihin, joita juhlittiin leikkauspäivänä. Se taas on mukava asia muistettavaksi.

I noticed this morning that the old broken nose-post has been read several times lately. I did not go through all posts that relate to that one, but I think I told at that time that finally the operation was necessary. Everything went fine and the operating specialist was really to recommend! He was very happy about the end result himself, too. (Besides, he could not quite conceal his joy about the rare source material he could collect from the case for teaching. Apparently children do not break their noses very easily, so it was for him once-in-a-lifetime kind of chance.) Afterwards we have often felt very thankful that we got referred to him, because the first two doctors that we had consulted thought that nothing needs to be done. However, this specialist noticed that the nose had actually not been broken symmetrically and had to be fixed. Had it not been done, the growth would have been less predictable and obviously there would have likely developed some problems inside as well. The cosmetic side is obviously secondary to actual health matters, but yet honestly, one's face is such a central thing that we have never regretted to have taken the decision to fix it. A happy thing that keeps confirming our decision is that it has never since been a regular topic of conversation. Except for one reason. Prince William and Kate got married on the day of operation. That is a sweet thing to remember.
