Reflection

Tänään valokuvan teemana on heijastus. Meillä on muutama vanha peili, joissa kehyksen virkaa toimittaa fasettihiottu reuna. Heijastukset valon vaihdellessa ovat joskus aika yllättäviä.

Sain äskettäin ystävältäni lahjaksi Ann Voskampin kirjoittaman uuden kirjan nimeltään The Broken Way.

Today the photographing task was about reflection. I have couple of antique mirrors that reflect the light nicely.

My dear friend gave me recently a book present. It was The Broken Way by Ann Voskamp. The book is a kind of continuation to her previous one, but its theme is facing one's own brokenness and accepting life in its imperfection. Her writing style could well be described as reflective. Like her previous book, also this one describes moments and thoughts so exactly that it almost hurts to read. She reminds about the importance of recognizing God's grace in difficult moments. Voskamp's theological perspectives lack somewhat a systematic structure. Her thoughts, however, represent well the kind of spirituality that stems from her Mennonite background. I noticed that some have complained that her views lead people into mysticism, but in her defence I would say that one has to read any theological ideas in their appropriate context. The way how we describe spiritual experiences usually reflects the community we share our faith with. The wording of such experiences is not therefore itself right or wrong. More important is to consider meanings that are given to different experiences, because those can obviously be more or less biblical. After having read five chapters, I would certainly recommend reading The Broken Way.
