Patchwork in progress

Hassua, miten rentouttavaa tälläinen pieni näpertely on!

I got a good start for my little patchwork project during the weekend! English paper-piecing does not seem difficult, but just time-consuming. My goal (a cushion cover) however is not too large, so I think it will easily keep my interest until the end. I cut triangles out of a corn flake box and spanned the pieces of material around the triangles using large stitches. Then I began assembling the pieces by sewing them by hand. The stitches come right to the edge of the cardboard. The pieces of cardboard underneath help to keep the pieces in shape and makes it easier to stitch them together. The cardboard can be removed as the work progresses. I'm quite exited about this technique. It works well as a beginner project!

It's funny how relaxing doing this kind of little craft is. My favorite thing is that one can see results immediately after attaching a piece. It's a very concretely advancing hobby. It seems that most things in adult life take much longer to get completed. It's kind of therapeutic to do something where results are so readily available. And they are completely predictable, too! How nice is that, ha!
